Celebrating new Media Literacy law in Washington state

This year we saw our first major success when Media Literacy Now collaborated with Action for Media Education to enact a law in Washington state. We celebrated in June with an event near our HQ in Massachusetts. Claire Beach and her team at AME are now working with the state to develop best practices and recommendations for ensuring media literacy and digital citizenship are taught in every school at all grade levels.

  • MLN President Erin McNeill presents first Champion Award to Claire Beach.
  • Jack Hall, advocate and lobbyist for health care and education causes in Massachusetts, presents a talk on the legislative process.
  • Claire Beach, president of Action for Media Education, describes her work to get the Washington law passed, and why it’s needed.
  • Special thanks to Jane Regan of Salem State University for videography in less than ideal light conditions!
