Educator, filmmaker, and our own advisory council member Jean Kilbourne inducted into National Women’s Hall of Fame

Jean KilbourneWe are just delighted to announce that Dr. Jean Kilbourne, a member of our National Advisory Council, has been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in honor of her decades of work demonstrating the harmful effect of sexualized, objectified advertising images on women and girls through her films, lectures and books.

Her message throughout has been that media literacy education is the solution.

Since we launched, Dr. Kilbourne has supported the Media Literacy Now mission to seek policy change and she has reached out to her own representatives in the Massachusetts legislature to ask for their support of media literacy legislation.

Dr. Kilbourne joins an illustrious cohort that includes Abigail Adams, Maya Angelou. Amelia Earhart, and Susan B. Anthony.

See these stories on her accomplishments and legacy via Shaping Youth and Boston Globe.logo-nwhof
