Expanding Media Literacy in Oregon

Our Coalition work in Oregon seeks to create, curate, and share media literacy instructional resources and tools for library and tech-related policy change. We aim to establish best practices to serve as a model for scalable impact in other states.

Oregon Media Literacy Coalition

The Oregon Media Literacy Coalition is a partnership between Media Literacy Now and 24th Century Education. The project will build a coalition, develop resources, and advocate for policy changes to support media literacy primarily across Oregon schools in hopes these activities can serve as a model for other states.

Through our coalition-building efforts, stakeholders work toward the common goal of ensuring our public education system teaches K-12 students the necessary skills they need to be discerning media consumers and navigate safely within a complex media landscape.

We know that while nationally 94% of youth agree that students need media literacy instruction, only 39% actually receive it. Our hope is that the Oregon Media Literacy Coalition can serve as a model for other states hoping to build bridges between organizations and create a lasting foundation for the media literacy instruction that is so vital for today’s youth.
