The Massachusetts Senate will debate a bill Thursday that would require all public schools to provide lessons in American history and civics. The bill would require media literacy skills be a part of that curriculum.
S2306 is a new bill created by melding various civics bills, several of which included Media Literacy education components (due in part to previous efforts by MLN to educate legislators), plus our primary model bill. Our persistent advocacy enabled the Joint Education Committee to see the clear need for Media Literacy within social studies and civics education.
If you’re in Massachusetts, call your Senator now, ask them to vote YES. Get contact information here.
