Updated March 15: Congratulations Pamela Pereyra, the MLN chapter leader in New Mexico, for a 64-0 vote on the House side in the Roundhouse followed by a strong bipartisan 31-4 vote in the Senate.

Any differences between the bill will be resolved and the bill will go to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.

House Bill 400 will create a statewide committee of 15 experts to advise the public education department on aligning media literacy to learning standards and developing teacher training guidelines. It will advise on survey contents on a statewide study of current media literacy practices to guide the plan.

HB400 would ensure that best practices in media literacy education would be applied in New Mexico.
