Best practices for the use of digital devices in school classrooms.
Media Literacy Now sees this legislation as parallel and complementary to our work on media literacy. It brings attention to the serious potential physical health effects of the use of technology in the classroom, and demands that policymakers pay attention to those risks. This bill (MD HB1110), approved by the Governor in April of 2018, requires the State Department of Education, in consultation with the Maryland Department of Health, to develop health and safety best practices for the use of digital devices in school classrooms. It further requires the Department to provide the best practices to each county board and nonpublic school for consideration and adoption.
